A Bit About Me

Having been fortunate to grow up in a family who’ve always holidayed, at the age of 11 I was frequently flying solo across the pond to Chicago where I’d spend summers with family.

Seeking greater independence, more travel experiences and being a little obsessed with aircraft, I left home and joined the Royal Air Force to work in Flight Operations and Air Traffic. After six years it was time to swap tents in a certain hot and sandy destination for some luxury, and naturally I joined the travel industry in 2014. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to travel as much as I have and I still feel like I haven’t scratched the surface of this beautiful world.

Q & A with Anna

Where have you travelled to in the last 12 months?

I’ve been on a holiday ban due to major house works to pay for, but I did manage a cheeky trip to the Bahamas for some winter warmth.

Where are you planning to travel in the next 12 months?

Italy, Australia and the Lake District.

What is your first travel-related memory?

Listening to Michael Jackson’s History on my Walkman on those long drives to the Lake District.

Aisle or window seat?

These days it’s an aisle so I can go for a wander.

Do you have any travel habits or rituals?

I’ve kept a daily travel journal for every trip I’ve ever done (big or small) for 23 years. It’s something my Mum suggested I did when I was 9 and It’s been a priceless gift.

What are you most likely to splurge on while travelling?

Airport lounges, decent hotels and business class (only when I go to Australia).

What’s your favourite thing about working at NWS?

The awesome team and everyone’s passion for the natural world, along with the collective range and depth of knowledge!!! I'm always constantly learning something new and love it. The sense of humour and wonderful energy in the office.

What do you like doing outside of NWS?

I am a film geek and have an unlimited pass, meaning weekly trips. I do Pilates, love musicals and I’m always booking gigs and shows to go to.

If you could do just one NWS safari, which one would it be?

Narwhal and Polar Bear Safari

Is there a standout destination in your mind?

The sea ice in the Arctic at 80 degrees North. The quiet, the movement, the wildlife. Perfect.

What is your best travel souvenir?

I always get a Christmas bauble where possible. Our tree looks ridiculous.

What is the best travel advice you have received?

Pop a chewing gum just as you land to wake you up a little and help with jet lag. I’m not sure if it actually works, but I still do it.

What is your spirit animal?

I’m a Leo, so it has to be the Lion.

What is your favourite thing about working/living in Brighton?

The endless opportunities for after-work antics!
