Accommodation & Facilities

There are 4 cabin styles on board the Akademik Ioffe: triple, twin (semi-private), twin (private) and superior. Each of these offers ample space, with enough room to store your luggage, as well as soft, warm bedding. There two additional suites: the Shackleton suite and the One Ocean suite. Both of these suites are complete with separate comfortable lounge area, large windows that open, fully-equipped private bathroom facilities and a fully stocked bar.

The main communal space features a bar with 180 degree views, a spacious lounge, dining area, gift shop, fitness room, wellness centre, infirmary, library, presentation room and mud room. You will also benefit from a sauna with a hot water spa and a polar plunge pool. Head up to the top deck to enjoy 360 degree views of the breath-taking Svalbard surroundings. Once you’ve taken in plenty of fresh air and stunning views feel free to use the multimedia room to edit images. The bridge is open nearly 24 hours a day where you can keep your eyes peeled for the King of the Arctic.

If you’re relaxing in the ship’s interior when there is a sighting, fear not, most shared areas on the ship have live feeds to the bridge so you don’t miss a thing!

All meals are provided during your expedition. Dining is a sumptuous affair with a range of cuisine served up by the on board team of talented and creative chefs.

During the day you will head out on Zodiacs with your expert guides to explore the land. Depending on the wildlife you encounter this may be from a distance aboard your Zodiac or on foot. You will look for seal, walrus and of course polar bears. The scenery of fjords and calving ice formations are also a real highlight. Activities include hiking and walking, as well as, of course, photography and you may even get the chance to take a polar plunge if you’re feeling brave enough!

Onboard, after an exciting day out on the ice in search of wildlife, relax in the wellness centre enjoying the sauna or plunge pool or if you haven’t had enough exercise there is also a fitness room. Finally, the cosy bar and lounge beckon for after-dinner relaxation.
