Situated within Chile’s rugged Torres del Paine National Park, Laguna Amarga is a rustic lodge offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside. There are 17 rooms on offer, as well as a separate cabin with room for four people and a camping site for those wanting to sleep under the stars. Setting

The immense mountains of the Torres del Paine make for an amazing backdrop to the Laguna Amarga. There are no arduous bus journeys required for you to enjoy the surrounding landscape, as Patagonia’s famous rolling hills can be found right outside your window. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the natural world, this lodge’s location makes it the ideal choice.

Accommodation & Facilities

The Laguna Amarga provides 10 en-suite bedrooms within its main building, each equipped with central heating for when the cold weather rolls in. Clients have a choice between double, triple or quadruple rooms, or the ‘Matrimonial’ room especially for couples travelling together. It also offers a further seven bedrooms which each have access to a shared bathroom, as well as a campsite for rough-and-ready adventurers. There’s even a cabin set apart from the main building, with space for up to four guests. A comfortable lounge area is the perfect setting in which to relax after a long day’s trek, with wide windows providing excellent views of the mountains beyond.

Dining

The charming restaurant on-site is the place to be for the best in Chilean cuisine. Boasting a well-stocked bar and dining space for up to 40 people, it’s a wonderful venue for socialising with your fellow guests. Breakfast is included for those renting an en-suite room.

Activities

This lodge is a great starting-off point for wildlife-lovers on the hunt for puma sightings. Other fauna that call the area home include guanacos, rhea, caracaras and the South American grey fox. Lake Amarga - for which the lodge is named - is just a mile away, and there are also nearby waterfalls which are truly a sight to behold. A paved road lies in close proximity, which allows for access to the National Park’s many trekking trails, as well as other activities such as kayaking and ice-climbing.
