An old mansion hotel which originally opened in 1923. Over the years it have been subtly refurbished and extended, fusing Latin and European styles, yet keeping its original features and character to create somewhere luxurious and charming for your stay in Rio de Janeiro.
The Copacabana Palace is about 8 miles from Santos Dumant (domestic airport) and 20 miles from Rio de Janeiro’s International Airport. Facing Copacabana beach, the hotel is close to the Ipanema and Leblon Districts as well as the business centre.
Accommodation & Facilities
Rooms and suites are split between the main building and the new Tower Wing Building and have views either of the Copacabana beach or the city. City View Rooms (30m² average size) and Beach View Rooms (38m² average size) are located in the main building and have either King or twin beds. Bathrooms are en-suite and vary depending on the size of the room – some City view rooms only have a shower, but most feature baths and showers, either separately or together. Some beach rooms also feature Juliet style balconies so you can fully absorb the beauty and style of the Copacabana Beach. In the new wing, you will find the Pool and Ocean View Suites (about 74m² in size) and the Penthouse Suites (up to 220m²). Pool and Ocean View Rooms are ideal for longer stays, with more space, a private sitting area and balcony, these rooms also feature a small kitchenette. The Penthouse Suites are the ultimate in luxury, with a private terrace and access to the Penthouse only pool and wet bar. The views from these suites are incredible over the beach or towards the city and a butler service is also provided. Rooms and suites are all individually designed, furnished with antique and period furniture and luxurious fabrics – the penthouse suite beds have actually been decorated with works of art. They al feature the utmost in comfort, with individually controlled air conditioning, extra long pillows and wide opening windows, as well as traditional Brazilian slippers (Havaianas), writing desk, hair dryers and luggage rack.
There are two elegant restaurants in the hotel and two bars; the stylish Bar do Copa by the pool, which can turn into somewhat of a party in the evenings, and the more tranquil and classic piano bar. There is also a spa featuring a hair salon, 7 treatment rooms, 2 dual treatment rooms, a steam bath and a relaxation area. Or those who are feeling a little more active, why not check out the gym or rooftop tennis courts!
The main activity here is the beach, and a wonderful beach it is – stretching down the sandy coast with beautiful crystal waters. However for those wanting to get out of the hotel and explore, Rio de Janiero is a vibrant city just waiting to be indulged. The shopping is fantastic, and the love of the beach here is emphasised with special bikini boutiques, there are lots of lively restaurants and bars to be discovered where you can involve yourself in some of the local banter. The first movie made in the country was made in Rio de Janeiro, and ever since then it has prided itself on this and there are many cinemas and theatres to attend.
Rio de Janeiro prides itself as having the only ‘urban rainforest’ in the world, where there are many different species to be discover via a walk or trek. There are guided tours available via jeep, bike or foot where you can venture up the mountain trails pr discover some incredible views from Pedra Bonita. Hang gliding is also a popular activity in the area for a completely different view!
