This morning you will need to make your own way back to the airport for your onward flight to Churchill. During the 45-50 minute flight you will fly along the west coast of Hudson Bay, where it may be possible to get some aerial landscape photographs.
Having arrived in Arviat, you will be met by your Expedition Leader who will escort you to the Arviat Polar Bear Cabins, your home for the next five nights! The cabins are strategically located in ‘Polar Bear Alley’, allowing for reliable polar bear encounters and exceptional photography opportunities as the bears are unable to travel further north due to the width of the river. During your stay you will be able to observe these magnificent animals as they wait patiently for the Hudson Bay Coast to freeze!
Overnight: Arviat Polar Bear Cabins (D)
Over the next four days you will spend time observing polar bears, along with other Arctic wildlife including hare, fox, snowy owls, and wolverines, in the wild whilst admiring the awe-inspiring natural landscapes. Tripods can be set up within the Polar Bear Cabins complex behind the unobtrusive electric fence, ensuring you are both comfortable and safe when trying to capture that perfect shot. Your Expedition Leader and local Inuit guides are on hand to ensure you are able to get the best photographic opportunities and due to their knowledge of the bears and their behaviours they will allow the bears to come as close to you as they deem safe.
Throughout your adventure, you will have an amazing and rare opportunity to complete daily hikes within polar bear territory under the instruction of your Inuit guides. Safe in the knowledge that your guides will keep you safe at all times, you will be able to get extraordinary photos of polar bears at a close range. Many of the polar bears you will encounter are friendly, in good spirits and will not approach, however, there may be a curious bear that will attempt to come towards the group. The guides are there to ensure your safety at all times and it is crucial that you follow their instructions at all times. By adhering to their rules it will allow you to have the most authentic, safe and up-close method of seeing these stunning creatures.
Northern Light Viewing
Additionally, due to a combination of the time of year and location of the cabins, you will be able to delight in the magical light shows created by the Northern Lights (weather permitting!). September to April is the best time to see this spectacular light show, so after dinner each night we recommend that you eagerly await the first hints on the most unforgettable display.
