Victory Point

As your magnificent ship, Akademik Ioffe, sails into the Northwest Passage, you’ll be learning about the mystery of the Franklin Expedition as the onboard lecture series begins. Day 3

Conningham Bay

It’s not unusual to find the beaches of Prince of Wales island littered with beluga whale skeletons where polar bears have their pick of food. Of course this means that you stand a very good chance of seeing some rather healthy looking polar bears, so have your camera ready.

Overnight: Akademik Ioffe B, L, D

Day 4

Bellot Strait

Awaken to the stunning scenery of Bellot Strait, an area well known for harp seals, bearded seals, and hopefully polar bears. Day 6

Lancaster Sound

This morning you’ll sail through the waters of Lancaster Sound along the coast of Devon Island. This is where the waters from the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans meet, which creates a nutrient-rich habitat for Arctic wildlife. You will have chance to visit the Royal Canadian Mounted Police outpost at Dundas Harbour, and keep your eyes open for muskox and Arctic hare that are sometimes seen in the area.

Overnight: Akademik Ioffe B, L, D

Day 7

Pond Inlet

Today the ship reaches the far north of Baffin Island, home to the remote community of Mittimatalik (Pond Inlet) where you will have the chance to meet some of the local Inuit families. Jakobshavn Icefjord & Ilulissat

One of the world's UNESCO sites, the Jakobshavn Icefjord calves giant tabular icebergs out into Disko bay creating scenery that will take your breath away. As you sail towards Ilulissat, the ships course will be adjusted depending on the amount of ice in the fjord, so relax and watch the ice sail by.

With colourfully painted houses that line the shore, Sisimiut is surrounded by towering granite peaks, and looks out over a stunning fjord which you’ll explore by ship before going ashore.
