Day by day

Day 1

Arrive San Jose

Today you will fly into San Jose, where you will be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel. Explore the city or simply relax in your hotel, ready for your adventure tomorrow.

Day 2

San Jose - Poas Volcano

After breakfast you will set off to the Poas Volcano, one of the most spectacular volcanoes in the country, with its enormous crater measuring 1.5 km in diameter and 314 metres in depth. In addition to the volcano, the Poas National Park is a 9,884-acre reserve with rich tropical vegetation and animal life. If weather and time permits, the visit can also include a hike through the surrounding forest which is teeming with typical plant life and exotic birds, finishing at a restful, emerald green, tropical lagoon. You will also visit the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a private reserve featuring five waterfalls, hiking trails and animal exhibits.

Day 3

San Jose – Sarapiqui

Today you will transfer to the Sarapiqui region of Costa Rica (approximately 2.5 hours), a region characterised by it's winding waterways and lush rainforest.

Day 4

Rafting the Rio Sarapiqui

You will spend the morning rafting the rapids of the Rio Sarapiqui, along an 11km stretch of stunning natural scenery. The rafting does require a good level of fitness and is only suitable for those aged 12 years and over.

Day 5

Sarapiqui - Tortuguero

This morning you will be driven south east to the town of Guapiles. On arrival at the jetty, you will board your boat for a ride through the jungle-clad canals to your lodge deep in the rain forest, arriving in time for lunch.

Days 6-7

Tortuguero National Park

Over the next two days you will explore the wildlife rich Tortuguero region, in the northeast Atlantic area of Costa Rica. Tortuguero is one of Costa Rica's best known national parks, and not without good reason. Besides protecting a 22-mile stretch of idyllic beach that is one of the largest and one of the continent`s most important green turtle nesting grounds, it also serves as a refuge for other turtles, such as leatherbacks, and hawksbills. Tortuguero`s surrounding network of rainforest and canals are also home to manatees, crocodiles, tapirs, jaguars, monkeys and sloths - a true tropical wildlife haven.

Day 8

Tortuguero - Selva Bananito

After breakfast you will be transferred by boat back to Guapiles, from where you will continue by road to your next lodge, Selva Bananito, tucked away in the rain forest near Puerto Limon.

Overnight: Selva Bananito B, L, D

Day 9

Selva Bananito

Nestled in the virtually untouched region of the Talamanca Mountains, Selva Bananito is one of Costa Rica's leading examples of eco-tourism. Their private reserve acts as an important buffer zone for the International Park La Amistad and is brimming with biodiversity. Today you will enjoy an adventure tour hiking up the Bananito riverbed, jumping into rock pools and abseiling down a waterfall. Not for the fainthearted, this is truly an action packed day.

Overnight: Selva Bananito B, L, D
