About this trip

In December 2020, photographer Pie Aerts will be leading our Puma Photography Safari in search of Patagonia's apex predator. This trip includes six nights at Eco Camp Patagonia, the world's first geodesic dome hotel, in the wilds of Torres del Paine National Park. Guests on this safari will be able to join Pie and a team of expert wildlife trackers as they search for pumas, guanacos, rheas, Andean foxes, Andean condors and many more species, in one of the most visually stunning wildernesses anywhere in the Americas.

Following this trip, Pie will be leading a 4-day extension to coincide with the December 2020 solar eclipse, when the moon will pass in front of the sun, plunging the day into darkness. Based in the Araucanía Region of Chile, you'll be perfectly placed to witness this mind-blowing event, allowing you to capture some spectacular photos. You can choose to add on this extension to Pie's Puma Photography Safari or enjoy the 4-day solar eclipse trip on its own.

Day 1

Dec 12: Santiago – Temuco – Glamping Camp

This morning, guests on our Puma Photography Safari with Pie Aerts will meet at the reception of their hotel, where they will take a group transfer to Santiago Airport in time for their flight to Temuco. Those who have booked the 4-day solar eclipse trip separately will meet their fellow travellers at Temuco Airport. Once everyone has arrived at the airport, our local representative will greet you and transfer you to the Glamping Camp. Following your arrival, spend the afternoon relaxing and checking out your campsite for the next four days, before finishing your day off with a relaxing evening at the Huife Hot Springs.

Day 2

Dec 13: Villarica Region

With a free day ahead of you why not join in on one of the excursions available at the Glamping Camp. Choose from a hike in Huerquehue National Park, climbing the active Villarrica Volcano which sits at 9,380 ft high; white water rafting on the Trancura River followed by a visit to the beautiful waterfalls of Ojos Del Caburgua; or for something more relaxed, visit the town of Coñaripe and then on to the thermal baths of Termas Geometricas for a dip. You may also decide to relax around camp after a busy few days on safari, or spend time with Pie to further hone your photo skills.

Day 3

Dec 14: Solar Eclipse

After a relaxed morning, head off to the chosen viewing site nearby Villarrica & Pucón where you will experience the magnificent total eclipse. The partial eclipse starts at 14:41, with the total eclipse starting at 16:02, which should last for 2 minutes and 8 seconds. After the total eclipse, carry on enjoying the partial eclipse for a further one and a half hours. After today’s excitement, transfer back to camp for dinner and the chance to sit and look over your photos.
