Join National Geographic photographer and big cat specialist Steve Winter on this immersive safari into the heart of Brazil’s Pantanal wetlands, in search of the elusive jaguar. Staying aboard an exclusive floating hotel, explore the winding, wildlife-rich waterways of the Cuiaba and Pixaim Rivers by boat, observing giant river otters, capybaras and jaguars relaxing or hunting on the river banks. Steve Winter will be on hand throughout your trip to provide hands-on guidance and expertise on capturing the perfect wildlife image.

Day by day

Day 1

Arrive Cuiabá - Northern Pantanal

Upon arrival at Cuiabá Airport, you will be met by your guide. After a leisurely lunch, you will depart Cuiabá for your transfer to South Wild Lodge, travelling along the Transpantaneira Highway leading south through the heart of the Pantanal. As you enter the Transpantaneira Highway you will start to see families of capybaras, pools of caiman and flocks of water birds. You will arrive at your lodge in time for dinner with Steve Winter, who will be your expert photography guide for the next week.

Day 2

Jaguar Research Centre Reserve

An early start this morning as you are driven to Porto Jofre, where you will embark on a boat journey upstream to the Jaguar Research Centre Reserve. After lunch, you will head out on a boat ride through the Pantanal wetlands in search of jaguars, while Steve provides guidance on capturing the perfect wildlife shot. Transfer to your next accommodation and settle in before dinner. In the evening, you will learn more about the area with an informative lecture.

Days 3-5

Jaguar Viewing

Spend the next three days exploring the Pantanal and searching for jaguars and giant otters along the Cuaibá and Piquiri Rivers with Steve Winter, your expert photographic guide. This is the best place in the world to see these elusive cats in the wild, and they can often be seen during the heat of the day sunning themselves on the river banks. Following your excursions, you will head back to the hotel where you will be able to relax, edit some photos and discuss your images with Steve, witnessing your shots improve day by day.

Day 6

Northern Pantanal

This morning, head out on your last boat outing to photograph jaguars in this region, before transferring back downriver to Porto Jofre. On arrival, you will be transferred back north along the Transpantaneira Highway. After lunch, you will head out for a two hour motorboat excursion on the wildlife-rich Pixaim River. This evening you will have a final chance to photograph the resident wildlife of the Pantanal, as you are taken out by your guides on a one-hour safari truck ride in an attempt to capture a few final shots to complete your portfolio. This is your last chance to put into practice all that you have learned from Steve throughout your trip, before relaxing for a final evening with your group.

Day 7

Depart Cuiabá

After your final breakfast in Brazil, transfer to Cuiabá Airport in time for your return flight home.
