Starting in Bangalore, you will travel to the historic city of Mysore, known as the ‘City of Palaces’ for its grand architecture and beautifully designed gardens. Explore the region with Romulus Whitaker

On this safari, you'll have the opportunity to explore the national parks of Bandipur and Nagarhole with famed herpetologist Romulus Whitaker, commonly known as "the snakeman of India". Romulus has dedicated his life to the research and conservation of India's wildlife, which has earned him both a Whitley Award (also known as the "Green Oscars" of the conservation world) and the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award.

Romulus has founded the Madras Crocodile Bank, the Gharial Conservation Alliance, and the Andaman and Nicobar Environment Trust (ANET). He has done amazing work with king cobras in particular, setting up the Agumbe Research Station in 2005. He is a prolific writer and features on many wildlife documentaries, and has also served as a consultant on wildlife management and conservation for a number of countries and international organisations.

As your private guide, Romulus will impart a wealth of wildlife knowledge and grant valuable insights into the ecology of Indian habitats. With an extensive experience of snakes, crocodiles, gharials and even stints in the Merchant Navy and a Japanese military hospital under his belt, Romulus will also have many a campfire tale to tell.

Day by day

Day 1

Arrive Bangalore

Today you will arrive in the southern city of Bangalore to begin your Indian adventure. Upon arrival at the airport, pass through baggage and immigration where you will be met by a local representative and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2

Bangalore - Mysore

This morning you will enjoy a tour of Bangalore, sometimes referred to as the "Silicon Valley of India". Visit the magnificent Vidhana Souda state legislature building and the Tipu Sultan's Palace, known for its finely embellished balconies, pillars and arches. You will also visit the Lal Bagh botanical garden, one of the most impressive in India, spread over 240 acres and containing over a thousand varieties of plants. In the afternoon, you will be driven to Mysore (approximately 4 hours) where you will check in to your hotel.

Day 3


After an early breakfast this morning, you will be taken for a city tour of Mysore, the 'City of Palaces'. Mysore is one of the best planned and most beautiful cities in India, combining traditional grandeur and more modern architecture. Visit sites such as the Maharaja's and Jaganmohan Palaces, and the dancing fountains at the Brindavan Gardens. You will also be taken through the Mysore markets, where you will walk through the busy fruit, vegetable and flower markets, giving you a true glimpse into local life. Later in the day you will visit the town of Srirangapatna, an important pilgrimage site because of its renowned Ranganathaswamy temple. Srirangapatna is also the site of the final battle between the Tipu Sultan and the East India Trading Company, which led to the establishment of the British Raj in India.

Day 4

Mysore - Bandipur National Park

This morning you will be driven to Bandipur National Park (approximately 2.5 hours). Bandipur was the first national park in southern India to be chosen for the Project Tiger scheme, launched in 1973 to help protect tigers and their habitats. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel, before enjoying your first game drive in the park.

Days 5-6

Bandipur National Park

The next few days will be spent exploring Bandipur National Park, heading out on morning and afternoon game drives into the park. Once the hunting grounds of the Mysore Maharajas, Bandipur forms part of a larger network of wildlife sanctuaries. Common wildlife in the park include bison, Asian elephant, sambar deer and langur monkeys. You may even be lucky enough to spot a sloth bear or tiger stalking through the dense forests.

Day 7

Bandipur - Nagarhole National Park

This morning you will depart Bandipur National Park and drive to Nagarhole National Park (approximately 3 hours drive). Check in to your hotel and enjoy your first game drive in the park.

Days 8-9

Nagarhole National Park

You will spend the next few days exploring the forests and waterways of Nagarhole National Park. Nagarhole, along with Bandipur and several other national parks, forms part of the wildlife-rich Nigai Biosphere reserve. Wildlife within the park includes sloth bears, wild dogs, elephants, flying squirrels and tigers.

Day 10

Nagarhole - Neeleshwar

This morning you will depart Nagarhole National Park and head to the beaches of Neeleshwar (approximately 6 hours drive). Upon arrival, check in to your hotel where the rest of the day is at leisure for you to settle into your beautiful surroundings.

Days 11-12


Spend time sunbathing on Neeleshwar's stunning palm-lined beaches, relaxing by the pool or enjoying ayurvedic spa treatments. Your resort provides the perfect setting for you to relax and unwind following your safari.

Day 13

Depart Neeleshwar

Today you will depart your resort and be driven to Mangalore airport (approximately 2.5 hours drive), where you will board your onward flight.
