Day 3

Start your Mt. Kinabalu Climb

Today you set off on your adventure to climb Mount Kinabalu via the starting point at Timpohon Gate. No visit to Sabah is quite complete without climbing this famous mountain which, at 4,101m (13,455 ft), is Southeast Asia's highest peak. The 5.25 mile trail from Timpohon Gate to Lows Peak, the summit, takes you through tropical rainforest, montane forest and cloud forest, to subalpine vegetation at the peak. Any reasonably fit and energetic person can climb Mt. Kinabalu and the reward waiting at the summit is a spectacular sunrise. Our expert guide will accompany you.

Day 4

Final summit trek

Your trek to the summit starts early. Leaving at 3am means you’ll have time to get to the peak in time to watch the sunrise; a real once in a lifetime feat. From here, you’ll head back down to the park headquarters to collect your certificate and enjoy a well-earned lunch. Take some time to relax and enjoy your surroundings after your transfer to the Sabah Tea Garden, then get a great night's sleep before more adventure tomorrow!

Overnight: Sabah Tea Garden B, L, D

Day 5

Mount Kinabalu - Kinabatangan River

Today you will transfer by land to Bilit at Ulu Kinabatangan. Similar to Sukau but not quite as developed, Bilit rests on the banks of the Kinabatangan River and has the second highest density of wild orangutans in Borneo. The next three days will be spent exploring this area of mangrove and rainforest either on foot or by boat. The river safari visits a variety of fauna and flora along the banks of the Kinabatangan River including orang-utans and proboscis monkeys.

Overnight: Myne Resort B, L, D

Days 6-7

Wildlife on the Kinabatangan

The river is rich in wildlife, playing home to orangutans, proboscis monkeys, elephants, crocodiles and more. During your time here you’ll explore your surroundings with river excursions and forest trails (on foot or bike). On one of the evenings, at sunset, you visit the Gomantong Caves, when up to 300,000 bats can be seen heading out for their evening hunt. Wild orangutans, mouse deer and wild buffalo can sometimes be spotted here too.

Day 9

Orangutan & sun bear sanctuaries

Watch the jungle come to life this morning with an early walk, then head to the orangutan sanctuary for the morning feeding. Attending a feeding means you can see them in quite close proximity. This afternoon you will also get to visit The Sun Bear Conservation Centre; a great new project set up to raise awareness and rehabilitate this fascinating and little-known bear.

Overnight: Sepilok Nature Resort B, L, D

Day 10
