Day by day

Day 1

Kigali - Volcanoes National Park

You will be met upon arrival at Kigali airport by your private vehicle and driver/guide and transferred through the land of a thousand hills to the famous Parc National des Volcans. You’ll have a chance to relax at your lodge in the shadow of the dramatic Virunga Volcanoes before your gorilla tracking safari starts in the morning!

Day 2

Gorilla tracking

Your first day of gorilla tracking! You’ll have an early start to make your way to the park headquarters where you are assigned a ranger and a gorilla group. Tracking the gorillas can take anything from 4-8hrs in lush green, steep, muddy, terrain. It is, however, the experience of a lifetime. Coming across these amiable primates in their natural surroundings is quite awe-inspiring as you watch them go about their daily lives, playing, grooming, farting and eating! Return to the lodge later in the afternoon to relax, have a hot shower and reflect on the day’s activities.

Day 3

Trek to Dian Fossey's Grave

This morning take a beautiful walk through the stunning foothills of the volcanoes and up to the grave of Dian Fossey and the gorillas with which she worked. You will also have the chance to visit the remains of the Karisoke Research Centre where Dian Fossey worked. If you carry on further up the hillside you come to the meadow where Dian Fossey used to have her mountain hut...a beautiful pasture with views of Bisoke, Karisimbi and Sabinyo peaks.

Day 4

Second gorilla trek

Today you have another chance to go gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park. Again you will be assigned a ranger and you will set off in search of your designated gorilla family. Depending on their location you may be trekking for a number of hours but you will have a full hour with the group when you locate them, so have ample time to take photographs and take in the experience of being in such close proximity to these amazing animals.

Day 5

Volcanoes National Park - Kigali

Today you can choose to visit the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project who run an invaluable operation in Volcanoes National Park. You'll meet the vets in person who will show you around their facility in detail and invite you to view a presentation about the work they do both in and around the park. This is a truly unique experience that compliments your time in the park greatly. Alternatively, you can enjoy a golden monkey trek or an additional days gorilla tracking. Following your activities here you will make your way to Kigali where you will spend the night.

Day 6

Depart Kigali

This morning, if you wish you have a chance to visit Kigali and the powerful genocide memorial before transferring to the airport in time for your international flight home.
