Day 4

Masai Mara – Nairobi – Zanzibar

Final morning game activity and breakfast before transferring to the airstrip for the morning flight to Nairobi Wilson Airport. Continue to the international airport for your onward flight to Zanzibar (flight not included). After arriving into Zanzibar you will once again be met at the airport and transferred Stone Town, one of the most iconic towns in east Africa and steeped in history. During your stay here you can enjoy walking the narrow streets, indulge in Zanzibarian cuisine and learn about the historical spice trade that makes the island so famous.

Day 5

Stone Town

Spend your day exploring this fascinating city independently. Famous for its flourishing spice trade as well as the slave trade, Stone Town is rich with history and culture blending a unique mixture of Arab, Persian, Indian and European influences. There is a lot to see here, from the markets, to the gardens and the many historical buildings, forts and museums.

Day 6

Zanzibar – Mafia Island

Meet your driver at the reception of your hotel for the short transfer to Zanzibar airport for the twenty minute flight to Mafia Island. Mafia is the southern-most of the largest three islands within this archipelago of tropical atolls off the coast of Tanzania (Zanzibar and Pemba being the other two largest). To those ‘in the know’ Mafia Island is the cool, off-piste and laid-back alternative to Zanzibar, offering a more authentic Swahili beach experience. It is a unique and perfect destination as part of a safari package or simply a place to unwind and get away from the daily, modern and busy world. Settle into your lodgings at Pole Pole Lodge.

The Mafia Archipelago and the delta of the Rufiji River form one of the most interesting marine ecosystems and coral reefs in the world. The area has a high bio-diversity and is considered an important habitat for endangered species. There are over 400 species of fish and between October and March, whale sharks are frequently sighted off shore. The warm, safe waters of the inland bays and lagoons are a paradise for both expert and beginner scuba divers as well as those simply wishing to snorkel. Mafia Island Marine Park was established as the first Marine Park in Tanzania and covers a surface of 821 km2. Spend your days relaxing at the lodge, exploring the marine life and on nature walks around the island.
