Safari Overview

Andy Mann and Keith Ladzinski have proven themselves as two of the biggest names in the field of outdoor photography. Honing their lenses on extreme sports fanatics, endangered species and untamed landscapes has garnered them numerous awards and an international following. Working for esteemed clients such as National Geographic, Sony, Nikon and The North Face, the duo have travelled to the furthest reaches of all seven continents to capture the natural world at its most raw and remarkable.

By joining them on their next adventure, you'll be able to take advantage of Keith and Andy's considerable experience while travelling through the spiritual home of the African safari: Kenya. The exclusive Naboisho Conservancy borders the famous Masai Mara, but don't let its smaller size and less-feted reputation fool you. Naboisho is reputed to have a higher density of game than the Masai Mara, and with fewer camps, fewer guests and fewer vehicles, your wildlife sightings will be made all the more memorable. If you're a keen photographer who wants to set foot in primal wilderness and learn from two of the industry's very best, this safari is for you!

What makes this trip extraordinary

  • Explore the Naboisho Conservancy – home to a fantastic array of flora and fauna – on both morning and afternoon game drives, as well as bush walks.
  • Follow the expertise of Andy Mann and Keith Ladzinski, who will help you to hone your photography skills out in the field as well as delivering post-safari lectures and feedback on your photos while back at camp.
  • A maximum of four guests per game-viewing vehicle, which allows for optimum photography opportunities and plenty of space for camera gear.
  • Search for the famous Big Five here in the Masai Mara ecosystem, as well as other African fauna like the giraffe, hippo, cheetah and a number of bird species.
  • Keep your eyes peeled for sightings of rarer species, including aardvarks, aardwolves, servals, caracals and honey badgers.
  • Stay at the award-winning Encounter Mara, an intimate and well-appointed tented camp surrounded by wildlife and wilderness.

Keith and Andy on safari

In June 2018, Andy Mann and Keith Ladzinski led a hugely successful expedition to Svalbard with Natural World Safaris. Here's what our guests had to say about the trip:

Keith and Andy, the two photographers, were entertaining when it came to presentations; obviously extremely competent when it came to the technicalities of photography; and exceptionally generous with their time and encouragement to all on board.

The professional photographers were amazing. Really helpful and fun! I learned a lot. Their presentations were first class.

Day by day

Day 1

Sep 21: Nairobi – Naboisho Conservancy

Upon arrival into Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by your professional English-speaking driver/guide and transferred to Wilson Airport to catch your internal flight to the Naboisho Conservancy, bordering the Masai Mara Reserve. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your tented camp, Encounter Mara, set amidst a magnificent canopy of acacia trees and surrounded by beautiful rolling plains. It is here that you will meet your expert photographic guides, Andy Mann and Keith Ladzinski, and together you and your fellow travellers will have six nights to spend at the award-winning Encounter Mara. Take it easy this evening as you get to know your group around the campfire, exchanging photography tips and plans for the coming days.

Overnight: Encounter Mara D

Days 2-6

Sep 22-26: Naboisho Conservancy

The next five days will be a wildlife photographer's dream. Covered in savannah grassland, acacia plains and rocky hills, the diverse habitat of Naboisho supports a whole host of wildlife, including water-dwelling hippos and huge crocodiles that lurk in the region's rivers. Herds of giraffe, zebra, antelope and wildebeest roam the plains, while Africa's Big Five can also be seen here, from elephants and buffalo to leopards and the rare black rhino. The iconic African lion is also well represented, with 35 resident lions and another 30, split between different prides, who venture in and out of the conservancy. Morning and afternoon game drives allow for the quintessential African safari experience, but bush walks are also on the itinerary. On foot you'll be able to see aspects of the bush which you would usually miss whilst in a vehicle, such as nesting birds, animal tracks in the dust, and the smaller creatures that make their home here in the shadow of lions and elephants. In addition to your local guides who will take you to the most wildlife-rich areas of the conservancy, Keith and Andy will be on hand throughout your adventure to dispense expert photographic advice, allowing you to hone your camera skills and achieve the perfect shot.

Overnight: Encounter Mara B, L, D

Day 7

Sep 27: Naboisho Conservancy – Depart Nairobi

Before you leave your camp, you'll have time for one final game drive with Keith and Andy before lunch. Use your last precious hours here to capture a different angle of Naboisho – the grass swaying in the wind, the play of light on the surface of a river, perhaps a portrait of a bird less photogenic than its cousins – or simply relax and drink in the distinctly Kenyan atmosphere. After bidding farewell to your guides, you will then be transferred to the Mara Airstrip for your flight back to Wilson Airport. On arrival you will be met and transferred to a hotel near the airport where you can enjoy dinner (at your own expense), before you are driven to the airport for your onward flight.
