The plains of the Masai Mara have been immortalised in countless films and nature documentaries over the years, from Sydney Pollack’s 1985 classic Out of Africa to the BBC’s long-running Big Cat Diary series. The natural riches on offer here are no secret, but on this exclusive safari you’ll be able to experience them from an entirely new perspective, courtesy of esteemed photojournalist and world traveller Ami Vitale. As a Nikon Ambassador, multiple World Press Photo award-winner and President of the National Geographic Advisory Board, Ami’s considerable experience will be invaluable during your time in the Mara. Officially one of the most badass women in the world, Ami has worked in war zones, lived in mud huts, contracted malaria and visited more than 100 countries over the course of her career; she’ll be on hand throughout this spectacular safari, helping you to craft images that will set you apart from the crowd.

Day by day

Day 1


On arrival at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met by our local representative and taken to Giraffe Manor. Also in the welcoming committee will be the hotel's resident Rothschild's giraffes, who roam the grounds surrounding this classic manor house. The giraffes are completely wild but enjoy being fed by our guests, making this an experience unlike any other in the world. After lunch you can visit the Giraffe Centre located within the Manor’s grounds or take a trip to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, where you can see orphaned elephants and rhinos. The Karen Blixen Museum offers a glimpse into the life of the author of the infamous book 'Out of Africa', and en-route you will have a chance to purchase gifts from local designers and artisans.

Day 2


You will be met and transferred to Nairobi Wilson Airport to catch the internal flight to the Masai Mara Reserve. Upon arrival you are to be met and transferred to the camp, adjacent to the Talek River and surrounded by beautiful plains. You will arrive in time to enjoy an afternoon game drive.

Days 3-8


Known as Africa’s greatest wildlife reserve, the reputation of the Masai Mara goes way beyond being simply a wildlife park. It is classic Africa with wide open savannahs and incredible game-viewing potential. A world-renowned place of adventure and exploration, the Mara is a stage where the brutal and unfettered reality of nature is played out in the greatest wildlife show on earth. Its fertile rolling grasslands, bisected by riverine forests, attract countless game – elephants, buffalo and big cats are all seen here, as well as more elusive species such as the serval and caracal. With exclusive use of the camp, you will have its full resources available to you, maximising your wildlife sightings and photographic opportunities on both morning and afternoon game drives. There will also be hands-on photographic advice from Ami and tutorials as and when time allows. Between game drives you can relax around camp and photograph the resident game which is attracted to the area.

Day 9


Depart on a final game drive transfer to Mara Airstrip for the morning flight back to Wilson Airport. On arrival you will be met and transferred to a hotel near the airport where you can enjoy dinner (at your own expense), before you are driven to the airport for your onward flight.
