Overnight: Richard's River Camp (L, D)

Day 2

Mara North Conservancy

This morning, enjoy a game drive into the Mara North Conservancy. The Mara North Conservancy is one of the most densely populated wildlife areas within the Masai Mara Ecosystem. Throughout the year great numbers of herbivores such as elephants, giraffes, zebras, Thomson`s gazelles and impalas seek the area for water and grazing and the big cats and other predators are never far away! Huge hippos and large crocodiles can be found lazing around in the waters of the Mara River.

This afternoon, enjoy a walk through the conservancy, with the opportunity to focus on microphotography or birding as you walk. This evening, you will take part in the first of Graeme’s night photography workshops.

Overnight: Richard's River Camp (B, L, D)

Day 3

Aerial Day

The adventure begins just before dawn on an optional balloon flight (£440.00 per person supplement) Departure is from a perfect natural launch site, flames from the hot air balloon burners light the darkness as the crews inflate their craft. The first, pink tongues of sunlight flicker across the skies as the hot air balloon fills, then rises. Suspended in a basket beneath the rainbow-coloured canopy, you’re off for a wildlife viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective, which will make for fantastic photography opportunities. After descending, you'll then enjoy a champagne style breakfast. You'll then be driven back to your camp for the rest of the morning. After lunch, you will have the chance to go out on your first helicopter session – 3 guests per helicopter- where you will be able to focus more upon your landscape and vista shots.

Overnight: Richard's River Camp (B, L, D)

Day 4

Sunrise Helicopter and Mara Elephant Project

An early start this morning as you will be taken out for another helicopter ride. This time, you will be able to take advantage of the sun rising over the horizon in your landscape and vista shots. Return to the camp for the rest of the morning, before heading over to the Mara Elephant Project to learn more about these spectacular animals and the conservational efforts in place to help protect them.

This once-in-a-lifetime exclusive experience offers guests a behind the scenes experience in the protection of the gentle giants of the Maasai Mara. Join Mara Elephant Project’s long-term monitoring (LTM) team as they go out into nearby conservancies to collect data on the elephant population. These scientists are doing important data collection on the elephants living in the Mara that is helping Mara Elephant Project (MEP) find long-term solutions to protect elephants, communities and habitats in the Greater Mara Ecosystem. This afternoon experience would include a trip to MEP’s headquarters in Lemek Conservancy to meet the team before heading out to conduct research. Your group would go out with the LTM team for two hours and become their research assistants. You’d be taking detailed photos of elephants, learning how to identify different individuals and ride alongside a Maasai elephant scientist to learn more about the threats facing the ecosystem.

Overnight: Richard's River Camp (B, L, D)

Day 5

Masai Mara

Enjoy a day on morning and afternoon game drives in the main Masai Mara reserve, before a relaxing evening back at camp. From July - September you should have good chances of witnessing the great migration. The wildebeest arrive at the Mara River in tens of thousands, ready to face the ultimate in terror for them; for water not only conceals predators such as crocodiles, but the vegetation can also be concealing land predators. They wait, and we can’t always find the reasoning, but the numbers build before one will finally begin to cross. Once they have crossed they spend a couple of months in the Mara before crossing back into Tanzania in September/October time. The migration attracts lion, hippos, elephants, hyena and countless other wildlife, including Big Five game. This is a really exciting time to visit the Mara and it is no wonder that BBC film crews have based themselves here for several years filming their Big Cat Diaries.

Overnight: Richard's River Camp (B, L, D)

Day 6

Mara North Conservancy Camera Trap Review

Enjoy another morning game drive in Mara North Conservancy this morning, with the chance to review the camera traps set out on your first journey to the conservancy. This afternoon, head back out on another game drive before your farewell bush dinner on the plains. After dinner, return to camp for your second night time photography workshop.

Overnight: Richard's River Camp (B, L, D)

Day 7

On safari at Mara Nyika

Enjoy your final morning in Masai Mara with a walk into the reserve for a final opportunity to get some spectacular shots, especially with the dew still on the ground before collecting any camera traps that might still be out. This afternoon, you will be transferred back to the Masai Mara airstrip in time for your flight back to Nairobi Wilson airport. Here, you will be met and privately transferred to Nairobi JKI Airport for your onward flights.
