Day by day

Day 1

Arrive Khwai

Depart from Maun on the internal light aircraft flight to the Khwai airstrip, where you will be met and driven (approximately 40 minutes) to your camp. Upon arrival at camp, you will be served a light lunch and shown to your tent to relax following your flight. In the afternoon, you will have the option to go on a game drive along the Khwai river or visit an underground hide next to a waterhole that is frequented by game, providing you with up close wildlife encounters. Later on, you will be introduced to your experienced wildlife guides and be briefed on the next few days.

Day 2

Khwai Community Reserve

This morning you will rise early and enjoy a full English breakfast at camp, before embarking on your first elephant tracking walk. Your guide will point out flora and fauna as you go, while searching for fresh elephant tracks. You will witness the incredible tracking skills of the Khwai bushmen, as they follow in the footsteps of the elephants and guide you through their movements and behaviour patterns, before cautiously approaching the elephants to avoid disturbance. The walk will be at a slow pace and there will be regular stops to ensure everyone is comfortable. After enjoying your packed lunch, you will head to 'The Skybeds'; three elevated platforms surrounding a watering hole, where you will be spending the night. Dinner will be served under the stars around the campfire, and you can hear a talk by your guide on the history and conservation efforts surrounding the elephants at Khwai.

Day 3

Khwai Community Reserve

Another early start this morning as you head out on your second walking safari. You will spend the morning tracking and photographing the elephants and other wildlife that you encounter, before returning to the platforms for lunch. Enjoy high tea in the afternoon, before a short walk to an underground hide where you can view wildlife from just a few metres away. In the evening, enjoy dinner under the stars again as you reminisce about the days events.

Day 4

Khwai Community Reserve

This morning you will be driven down to the Khwai river, looking out for wildlife on the way. Take a short makoro ride along the river, and spend the rest of the morning walking along the river, exploring the islands and flood plains bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. This is a great opportunity for spotting wildlife such as hippos, zebra, waterbuck and lechwe, as well as the abundant birdlife. Enjoy lunch by the river, before setting off on a game drive along the river in the afternoon, where you have a chance of viewing lions, wild dogs and the elusive leopard.

Day 5

Depart Khwai

After breakfast this morning, you will depart camp and be driven to Khwai airstrip for your onward flight.
