About this trip

This safari takes you to some of the best places in Botswana for wildlife; from the Moremi Reserve which is renowned for spotting the elusive wild dogs, the Khwai River where you can find the largest heronry in southern Africa, and to Savuti which is great for elephant and lion interaction, as well as bushman walks. Staying in the wonderful Letaka Tented Camp means that each time you move on to a new destination, your camp will be set up for you when you reach each destination. This enables you to relax and enjoy your safari, returning at the end of each day to comfortable and spacious tented lodgings; as well as some delectable cuisine. This safari works well with an extension to Victoria Falls or Chobe National Park.

Day 1

Arrive Maun - Moremi Reserve

On arrival into Maun Airport you will be met and welcomed to Botswana by our local representative and shown to your onward flight to the Xakanaka airstrip. Your flight will take you over the renowned Okavango Delta; this will be your first view of the fascinating areas you will be exploring over the next few days. You will be met by your guide at Xakanaka and taken to your home for the next nine days. If time permits you may even be able to go on your first game drive!

Days 2-3

Moremi Reserve

A series of game drives by 4x4 and boat trips are possible over the course of the next few days. This area is renowned for its spectacular game viewing. There are surprises around each and every corner; herds of buffalo, a vast array of antelope and numerous predators make for exciting game drives. Moremi is also one of the best areas in the Okavango Delta for spotting the elusive wild dogs.

Day 4

Moremi Reserve - Khwai

Today you will be driven to the Khwai area of the Delta which will take approximately 3-4hrs. The day’s journey follows this water course, with the track weaving from the riverside and floodplains into the mopane veld and the woodlands that make Khwai one of the most scenic areas of the Okavango. You will pass the magnificent Dombo Hippo Pools in the morning where you will stop to enjoy the scenery and the antics of the resident hippo. Leopard, cheetah, serval and wild dogs are resident in this area and if you are lucky, you may be able to spot them along your journey.

Days 5-6

Over the course of the next few days you will spend your time between the dryland habitats of the lead-wood and camel-thorn woodlands, the savannahs, riverside and marshy back-waters of the Khwai. Time permitting you may be able to visit the lagoons and waterways of Xakanaxa where the largest heronry in southern Africa lives. There is excellent predator viewing in this area as well as fantastic bird viewing including the rosy throated long claw. 4x4 game drives, walking safaris and night drives are all on the agenda over the course of these two days.

Day 7

Khwai - Savuti

Today your journey takes you further north on your way to Chobe National Park (a drive of approximately 4-5 hours) and our exclusive wilderness campsite in the Savuti region of Botswana. Passing through excellent lion and cheetah territory you can expect an exciting day. When you reach Savuti you will have a chance to relax upon arrival or enjoy another game drive (time permitting).

Days 8-9

You now have two days to enjoy this wildlife-rich region on game drives and Bushman Painting Walks. This region is renowned for its elephant and lion interaction as it is inhabited by a large resident pride of lions numbering 20-30 members who have perfected the art of hunting elephants. The marsh region is also perfect cheetah territory with wild dogs also being spotted in the area during the wetter months.

Day 10

Savuti - Chobe River

Today you will be awoken early in order for you to make the journey from Savuti to travel along the Chobe River arriving into Kasane. From here you will enjoy an afternoon boat cruise to see which riverine fauna and flora you can spot...and if you are in luck, even see some elephants crossing the mighty Chobe River!



Prices for this safari depend on the season. Low season prices start from £2,320 - £4,260 in high season.


This is a small group safari departing on set dates. Accommodation is in Letaka Tented Camp which we categorise as semi-luxurious mobile camping. Children cannot join the set departures, however you can arrange the camp on a tailor-made basis for family safaris.
