Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge was founded by Clive Stockil. An integral part of his work was to with the local community to help conserve the wildlife of Gonarezhou. Through sustainable tourism the community have built a school, clinic, police station and mill, and the wildlife in the park has flourished.
Safaris at Chilo provide our guests with the increasingly rare opportunity to witness untamed wildlife, in some of the last remaining true wilderness of Africa. Guests will enjoy the luxury of the lodge with it's stunning views over the Save river, together with the close proximity to wildlife whilst camping in the park.
Set up by expert conservationist and naturalist guide, Clive Stockil, Chilo Gorge Lodge has a focus on community-led conservation efforts and retaining the park's natural charm. It is vital to keep this area of wilderness pristine while still allowing visitors to explore the area and the wildlife. The lodge was built with natural resources, and sustainability is key.
Clive's CAMPFIRE programme (Communal Areas Management Programme for Indigenous Resources) started at Chilo and has since been used globally as a conservation strategy. In line with CAMPFIRE Chilo Gorge Lodge have also set up the Mahenye Charitable Trust to further benefit the local community.
The trip value is £11,500 based on the cost of two persons sharing, excluding international flights.
This safari includes three nights Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge, three nights wild-camping semi-luxury tented camp, all meals, house drinks and activities. Arrange dates at least 6 months in advance to ensure Clive Stockil as your host for part of the stay. Valid for travel between April-November 2017.
The prices excludes international flights (starts and ends in Harare), premium drinks, gratuities, personal items, additional activities and visas.
