We travel to learn. On this wildlife and ecology course hosted by the Okavango Guiding School you will learn the practical aspects of being a guide and gain a deep insight of the wildlife and ecology of the Okavango. The focus is on nature guiding, including conducting game drives, boat excursions, makoro (dug-out canoe) expeditions, walking safaris, bush sleep-outs and weapon handling.
Learn the skills of tracking, bush survival, bird and mammal identification and much more.
The Okavango Guiding School is a fully accredited organisation, adhering to both FGASA and BQA guidelines. It has been running practical training camps in the Kwapa region of Botswana for over 10 years. The training gives a broad education into the knowledge and skills required to be a field guide, while allowing you to fully explore the Okavango Delta region and encounter the variety of wildlife that resides there.
As part of their ongoing work, the Okavango Guiding School provides a sponsorship programme for one local citizen to join each course to ensure they have the opportunity for self-development and learning. In turn they can offer their newly found skills back to the camp as a field guide, driver or ranger.
In addition, the more the locals learn about the wildlife that surrounds them in the Okavango region, the more they will understand about the contributing factors of responsible tourism and feel inclined to work in conjunction with local wildlife conservation projects.
The trip value is £4,400 based on the cost of two persons sharing, excluding international flights.
This safari includes 6 nights at Kwapa Camp in a 3 x 3 metre tent, all meals, all excursions and activities. Valid April - November 2017.
The prices excludes international flights (starts and ends in Maun), all drinks, personal items and visas.
