NWS client Angela's journey through one of the jewels of Latin America

We spent 17 wonderful days in Peru in October 2018. On the first day we arrived at our hotel in Lima, and on the next we started with a sightseeing tour of the city. The afternoon allowed us some free time in Miraflores to take a walk to the Pacific Ocean. We then went to Paracas and had a flight over the Nazca Lines We also had some time to check out the Paracas National Reserve where the views were breathtaking.

On the third day we headed to Puerto Maldonado to Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge The next two days we spent exploring the rainforest and sighting the wildlife. We did several excursions, and saw otters, snakes, monkeys and caimans, but our favourites were the agoutis at the lodge. We also had a chance to walk across the canopy walkway and do several boat trips in the Amazon

On Day 7 we arrived to Cusco and we got to our lovely hotel, Hotel El Retablo, which was just five minutes’ walk from the city centre, so we could explore Cusco ourselves in the afternoon. The next day we took the train through the Sacred Valley and arrived at Aguas Calientes. After a short bus drive we arrived at Machu Picchu It was amazing, and was the highlight of our trip. We spent several hours exploring the ancient Inca city.

On the next day we had some time to check out the local market and then headed back to Cusco to Hotel El Retablo, which was our personal favourite accommodation for the trip, with its lovely design and decoration. On Day 10 we did a sightseeing tour around Cusco, then visited the ruins of Puca Pucara, Sacsayhuaman and the Korikancha Temple. The next day we rode through the Andes for a scenic journey to Puno by train. On Day 12 we had a full day enjoying Lake Titicaca We visited the floating islands of Uros and Taquile.

It was an amazing trip. At every location we visited we had great guides with a deep knowledge of Peruvian culture, which made our vacation perfect. The hotels and lodges we visited had excellent service. It was our second trip with NWS and we really enjoyed that after we were picked up on arrival at the airport, we didn’t have to think about anything, and were left to just enjoy the time and be curious about what the next day would bring.
