A beautifully distinctive boutique hotel in a 1930's tea planter's bungalow.
Ashburnham is situated within it's own 100 acre tea estate, with stunning views over the Knuckles Mountain range and the surrounding hills.
Accommodation & Facilities
There are six bedrooms, including four double rooms, one family room and a suite, all located in the main bungalow. Each room is spacious and uniquely decorated, with comfortable furnishings including a large four-poster bed and en suite bathroom. The Sunset Room is the largest of the double rooms, ideally located near the front of the house for watching the sun set over the tea plantation. The Balcony Room, Hideaway Room and Bay Room all have views over Mount Hunasgiriya.
The Family Room has a large double bed and two antique single beds, and is in a more secluded location near the back of the house. The Ashburnham Suite also features a large lounge area that opens onto a private courtyard with views over the hotel lawns.
The restaurant serves both European and Sri Lankan style cuisine, with freshly baked scones and cakes served each afternoon, using produce from the estates vegetable garden and locally sourced ingredients. You can also join Reggie, the resident chef, also offers cooking classes where guests can learn how to create traditional Sri Lankan dishes.
There are plenty of activities available on the estate itself, including mountain biking, nature walks with the hotels' resident naturalist, guided tours of the tea plantation and swimming in any of the several waterfalls that are scattered across the estate. The hotel is also ideally situated for exploring the sights of the Cultural Triangle, including the ancient rock fortress at Sigiriya, the Dambulla cave temples or the botanical gardens of Kandy.
