A luxurious eco-friendly safari camp
Tarangire National Park is 115km away from Arusha, on good roads; Sanctuary Swala is another 67km into a remote part the park. The drive from Arusha takes about 3 hours, including game viewing, through an arid haven, dotted with acacia’s and majestic baobabs, termite mounds and an abundance of fantastic wildlife!
Accommodation & Facilities
12 open plan, spacious luxury tents (or ‘pavilions’) set up on wooden platforms with fantastic canvas windows stretching from the ceiling down to the floor. Tents have either twins or a king bed, depending on the occupants, however they are all swathed in mosquito netting and extremely comfortable. Each room has a separate dressing area, private veranda and large lounge areas that feature campaign furnishings and comfy sofas. Bathrooms are en-suite and include both an indoor and outdoor showers with hot and cold running water. To top it off each tent comes equipped with a private butler, there to take care of your every whim!
The main area is built on stilts around an ancient acacia tree and features contemporary African design under a traditionally thatched roof, all fixtures and fittings are locally sourced. The extensive deck is perfect for sundowners, while the infinity pool looks down over a water hole, popular with elephants, lions and impala, alongside the occasional visiting leopard.
Meals, featuring modern African cuisine, can be enjoyed in the open air thatched dining area or in the bush in one of Sanctuary Swala’s ‘secret spots’. There is also a pizza oven. Dinners are accompanied by fine wines and a silver service.
Game drives are done in customised safari vehicles and walking safaris are available, both with expert guides – walks are done with armed rangers. You can also visit a nearby village and school.
Children over 12 are allowed.
Sanctuary Swala has been built with the smallest possible carbon footprint. They work with the local communities, buying local produce and offering employment as well as supporting a local school.
