Accommodation and Facilities
There are stylish double ensuite rooms in the main house at Horizon Horseback, and a further 4 chalets, also with private bathrooms. All tastefully decorated, they sit next to the lake within the estate grounds. The lodge is the perfect place to relax and switch off from the world; there is a large veranda where you can sit with a drink or a book and soak up the tranquil setting. The jetty on the lake makes the perfect spot for sunbathing! There are no newspapers or televisions at the lodge, so you really can escape from the world here.
Dining at Horizon Horseback is a delight. You can take lunch underneath the giant syringa tree in the gardens, and then recall the day’s adventures in the dining room over an elaborate three course menu, made using fresh vegetables and home grown herbs, which can be enjoyed alongside a delicious glass of fine South African wine.
Horizon Horseback Lodge really is incredible place to stay both for riders and non-riders. It offers a variety of hacks and outrides, jumping, polocrosse, cattle mustering and even swimming with your horse! Try out the riding safari, going horseback to catch sight of the local wildlife. There are riding lessons available for complete beginners to experienced riders – you could simply learn the basics of riding in the wonderful South African surroundings, or for those who more comfortable going horseback, challenging riding experiences such as jumping, horse training and flatwork lessons are on offer. All rides are tailor-made to the needs of guests, and with 7000 hectares of savannah ranch to be explored, you may catch sight of wildlife such as the zebra, giraffe or jackal which live on the ranch.
For those who don’t ride, or just simply fancy a break from riding, there are a variety of exciting activities on offer – why not take a cultural tour of the local farm community led by four of the elderly ladies from the community? Or, for those who are interested in astronomy, there are fascinating ‘Night Safaris’ to attend! Game drives are among the many other activities that can be organised here in the local reserve, where you'll be able to see lions, elephants, buffalo, rhino and more.
Children are welcome at Horizon; separate rides are organized for families.
