Arathusa Safari Lodge is home to exceptional wildlife experiences, not only can you spot the big five here, but there are remarkable sightings of leopard. Known to be one of the best places to stay in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, this is an intimate lodge that serves its purpose, extending your natural experience.

Overlooking a popular waterhole, this enchanting lodge is full of African spirit, located in the remote northern wilderness that borders the Kruger National Park, an area famous for its incredible concentrations of game. Game drives and bush walks are a definite highlight, and with fantastic rangers and trackers

A charming and intimate African style lodge


In the northern part of the Sabi Sands Game Reserve in Mpumalanga, the Arathusa is accessible by road. It is easier to fly to a close by airport so the drive is shorter, e.g. Hoedspruit is just 1.5 hours away and Nelspruit and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport is about 2.5 – 3 hours away.

Accommodation & Facilities

The 10 standard rooms are very spacious, close to the main lodge area for easy access and with views of the waterhole. Rooms are thatched with high pitched roofs, en-suite bathrooms and a private veranda. Amenities include air-conditioning, a safe and a mini bar. There are 4 luxury suites, ideal for those who want a little more privacy. These rooms have indoor and outdoor showers, a plunge pool, patio and indoor living area. They do not have a view of the water hole, however the stunning vistas of the surrounding bush more than make up for it!

In the main lodge area there is a wonderful pool with amazing views and a recent addition is the luxury spa that looks out to the waterhole.


Meals during the day are generally served on the timber decking with views over the lake, whilst dinner is in the star-lit boma.


Arathusa takes pride in its leopard sightings, with 14 calling the area surrounding the lodge home, they are often seen on local game drives. There are two game drives going out per day, at peak times for optimum wildlife viewing. The rangers that accompany you know the surrounding bush like the back of their hands, their expert knowledge making your experience that bit more enriching. You can also enjoy bush walks.
