Grootberg Lodge

About Grootberg lodge

100% owned by the conservancy, Grootberg Lodge was built with the support of the European Union and the aim is to train the local people to eventually run it – the revenue then being pumped straight into community projects.

Perched on the edge of the Grootberg Plateau, it has breathtaking views and is the perfect spot to break up a trip between Etosha and Swakopmund.

lodge details

Style

A friendly, community owned lodge with possibly the best views in Namibia

Setting

On the edge of the Grootberg Plateau, almost 1,700 metres above sea level, the lodge is about a 5 hour drive from Swakopmund and about 4 hours from Etosha’s Andersson Gate.

Accommodation & Facilities

Accommodation is in rock chalets, built from the local rocks found around Grootberg and topped with thatched roofing. Inside, rooms are clean, crisp and uncomplicated, kept light and airy with white washed walls and wooden furnishings. There are no mosquito nets, air-conditioning or fans, however the rooms remain relatively cool.

The main area has a large, neutral coloured lounge area and there is a small bar and dining area. Tea and coffee is available throughout the day on a ‘help yourself’ basis. The swimming pool has amazing views over the Klip Valley.

Dining

Meals are tasty and flexible with timing, served both indoors and outdoors.

Activities

These include tracking desert-adapted elephants and black rhino, scenic drives to the Klip River and visits to a Himba Village.

Child Policy

Children are welcome; however the ground is uneven in places so we would recommend it to those of a more mature age.
