about offbeat meru camp
This 12 bed classic, semi-permanent tented camp is set above the pretty Bisanadi River, is situated on the edge of Meru National Park and Bisanadi National Reserve, giving easy access to both areas for some ‘wild’ game viewing – away from the masses. With a wide variety of landscapes and habitats, it is dominated by savannah, yet has swamps and riverine forest. The excellent game viewing opportunities include lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, black & white rhino, eland, Beisa oryx, Grant’s gazelle, Grevy’s zebra, lesser kudu and reticulated giraffe, as well as over 280 bird species.
There are six elegant and comfortably furnished tents, each with a large iron bed. En-suite bathrooms include traditional 'bucket showers' and flushing toilets. There is 24 hour solar lighting in the tents.
The rest of the camp is lit by traditional tilley lamps, which give a warm evening glow.
