Gili Lankanfushi

About Gili Lankanfushi, Maldives

Boasting incredible service, with a ‘Mr Friday’ available 24/7 to attend to your every need, Gili Lankanfushi offers an unbeatable experience in the Maldives. Set over the water off the coast of North Male Atoll, it combines the ultimate in barefoot luxury with an outstanding setting.

Formerly Soneva Gili, Gili Lankanfushi was the very first over-water resort in the Maldives, and it is still one of the best with its stilted accommodation resembling environmentally friendly palaces peering over the famous azure sea.

Not only is the accommodation, service and views consistently excellent, but the cuisine matches, with an amazing range from Japanese to Peruvian, and sushi making classes available at lunch.

Setting

Set on the private island of Lankanfushi on the Male Atoll, one of nineteen that stretch over 800km through the Indian Ocean. This intimate coral island is surrounded by waters teeming with wildlife just begging to be explored. Access is via a 20 minute boat ride from Male, the capital of the Maldives.

Accommodation & Facilities

Built on stilts over the ocean, each villa is designed with the environment in mind and the utmost attention to detail. Enjoy your very own water garden and sun deck where you can enjoy the views in privacy, and snorkel straight from your door! There are different types of accommodation available; the Villa Suite (210sqm) has a large open air living room, over-water sun deck, rooftop sun deck and an open-air private bathroom with a beautiful, glass-walled shower. Residences (250sqm) are at the end of the jettys, with a living area that can be converted to an extra bedroom and an additional TV and DVD player. More secluded than the Residences are the Crusoe Residences, standing completely alone in the waters, accessed only via rowing boat or pontoon (included!). Additional to the Residences, these have a mini wine cellar and kitchenette. The Private Reserve (1,400sqm) is absolutely huge and totally lavish, with uninterrupted 360 degree views of the ocean (300 metres from the closest villa), located within a turquoise lagoon. Facilities here include, but are not limited to, 2 mater suites with floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides, a unique 100sqm open-air bathroom, a private spa facility (with steam room, sauna and more), individually controlled music, the assistance of a 24 hour butler and sea level sun decks for direct access to the ocean, as well as easy to use personal motorised transfer boats.

Some accommodation is also available as a Spa Suite. Facilities throughout include the dive centre, fitness centre, organic garden, library, shop and complimentary leisure activities including yoga, tennis and canoeing. Each villa also has access to their very own Mr (or Mrs) Friday, named after Robinson Crusoe’s assistant. This service is available for 24 hours per day and includes arranging excursions and unpacking luggage, to keeping the kids entertained. The outdoor cinema shows movies twice a week and is available for private use outside of this.

Dining

The main restaurant is on the beach of Lankanfushi, great for breakfast or dinner. There is also the stunning Overwater Bar serving fresh sushi and Mediterranean dishes, the Overwater Grill for fresh seafood and meats cooked on a lava stone grill and By The Sea for Peruvian-Japanese fusion cuisine. Additionally try the Wine Cellar & Underground Chocolate Cave, enjoy a romantic meal in your villa or on the beach, or try a secluded dining experience on One Palm Island, Palm Beach or the Jungle Cinema.

Activities

Activities include sunrise yoga, tennis, volleyball and table tennis, as well as a selection of board games and a library. You can also participate in water-sports such as kayaking, wind-surfing, canoeing and Hobiecat sailing. Other activities (at additional cost) include guided snorkelling, sunset and sunrise cruises, sandbank picnics, dolphin cruises, excursions to Male and the local island and private movie screening. Of course, you can just chill out on your private deck, dipping into the water occasionally for a snorkel! There is also a dive centre.

Child Policy

Children are accepted and Mr (or Mrs) Friday can help to keep them entertained if you so choose, however we do not recommend it for young children due to its location over the water.
