Lake Kivu Lodge

About Lake Kivu Lodge

This idyllic lakeside hotel offers the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Goma. Neighbouring Lake Kivu is the star attraction, with the surrounding mountains and resident birdlife making this a wonderfully picturesque destination for the discerning traveller. The friendly staff will be happy to welcome you and will do everything they can to make your stay in this oasis of calm the best it can be.

With Virunga National Park just a few miles away, this is a great place from which to begin your DRC safari.

Combining stylish and well-appointed rooms with a true taste of African decoration and architecture, Lake Kivu Lodge exudes a warm and natural style that makes liberal use of wood and stone.

The azure expanse of Lake Kivu is what makes this hotel’s setting truly special, but the beautifully tended grounds really add to the ambience. Sitting amidst a dazzling array of tropical plant life, from ferns and flowers to soaring trees, you’ll soon forget that the city of Goma is just behind you.

Accommodation & Facilities

33 rooms are available here, with 23 situated in the main lodge and a further 10 in a newly constructed annex, located just 100m from the hotel’s restaurant. Among these there are 12 different types of room to choose from, most offering luxurious four-poster beds and spectacular views of the lake just outside your window. Paying a little extra could also net you your own espresso machine and private gated terrace, perfect for enjoying the sunset or drying off after a dip. An onsite generator can provide power to the hotel in emergencies, and a library and set of safety deposit boxes are also provided for guests’ use. For those wanting to relax in peace, try the secluded pool, terrace or lakeside quay and watch the distant boats float by.

The marvellous view over Lake Kivu itself can also be enjoyed from the lodge’s restaurant and bar area, with a choice of elegant table settings perched on a terrace or more relaxed seating closer to the water’s edge. Enjoying the local cuisine with this backdrop and a garden bursting with greenery around you really can’t be beat. A superb buffet breakfast is also served in the mornings, while light snacks and alcohol are also available on request – try a glass of Tembo, the Congolese beer that’s a favourite with the locals.

This hotel’s setting makes it a haven for guests wanting to enjoy some water sports. Hopping on a boat, surfboard or paddleboard lets you get a real taste of one of Africa’s Great Lakes, but there are also plenty of spots where you can kick back and relax right next to the water. For those looking for a more adventurous excursion, the lodge’s proximity to Virunga National Park allows for quick access to this beautiful 3,000-square-mile area filled with wildlife, volcanoes and vistas aplenty.
