Where to stay in Peru

The standard of accommodation is generally high in Peru, as it is one of South America’s most well-established destinations. The options we have selected can range from converted mansions and monasteries to boutique lodges and colonial haciendas located in the heart of the country’s main attractions. Due to the number of different properties in some locations we are unable to list them all, so if you have a particular accommodation in mind that you do not see listed below, please contact our specialists who can look into incorporating this into your itinerary

1. Hotel B

This Relais & Chateaux property is the first arts-boutique hotel in Lima, Peru, combining authentic and contemporary features to create the ultimate urban retreat. Originally a 1914 Belle Époque style family mansion, it has been restored, or even transformed, into a classic boutique with a 1920s atmosphere and all the modern comforts you could need. The original structure, including the high ceilings and glass windows have been preserved, and a combination of vintage and designer furniture added to the mix. This is the perfect hotel for anyone seeking a bit of history, a little flair and some authentic Peruvian culture during their stay in Lima.

2. Inkaterra La Casona

Inkaterra La Casona is a restored colonial manor, located on an Inca settlement near the main square in Cuzco. Keeping many of it’ original features and amenities, it combines these with modern facilities creating luxury within tradition for an authentic and sumptuous stay. Pampering each guest as if it were them only, everyone gets a personalised welcome and stay helping to create the memories of a lifetime. Consisting of just 11 suites around a central courtyard, this is a great base from which to explore the city and the beautiful Andes. The scenery here is fantastic, there is so much to see and do, cultures to explore and ruins to navigate – it’s just a question of fitting it all in.

3. Refugio Amazonas

Located in a 200-hectare private reserve within the buffer zone of the Tambopata National Reserve, Refugio Amazonas is a secluded, 32-bedroom jungle lodge. The lodge is located about two hours from the Puerto Maldonado airport, in Southeastern Peru. With its wide variety of kid-friendly, adventure-focused, and science activities, Refugio Amazonas is great for nature lovers and families. As the headquarters of our Citizen Science program, Wired Amazon, you even can contribute to science or discover a new species on your trip!

4. Tambopata Research Centre

Tambopata Research Center is located within the Tambopata National Reserve in front of the Bahuaja Sonene National Park in Madre de Dios PERU, making it one of the most remote lodges in South America! The lodge's pristine location means that it's surrounded by the best wildlife the Peruvian Amazon jungle has to offer. The lodge features 300 meters (almost 1000 feet) of elevated walkways! These walkways are located in the perfect level of the forest — in between the canopy and the floor — where wildlife becomes more active.

5. Machu Picchu El Pueblo

Popular with those heading to the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu, Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel of 5 stars is an intimate Andean village with terraced hills, waterfalls, stone pathways and 83 whitewashed adobe casitas tucked away in the cloud forest. The property has 12 acres of exquisite natural beauty, where 214 bird species – such as the golden-headed quetzal and the iconic Andean cock-of-the-rock – and the world’s largest native orchid collection (372 species) have been registered.

6. Posada Del Yucay

Located in the heart of the Sacred Valley, 5 minutes from Urubamba, and surrounded by beautiful gardens, the Sonesta Posada del Inca Yucay hotel is a remodeled 18th-century monastery that retains its original colonial charm. This wonderful 88-room hotel is located 1 hour drive from the ancient Inca capital, Cusco and near Machu Picchu, one of the seven new wonders of the world.

7. The Aria Amazon

The luxurious Aria Amazon cruises the northern parts of the Amazon in Peru and provides extreme levels of comfort and service to its guests - custom built in 2010 for those exact reasons. There are 16 oversized suites accommodating up to 32 guests plus the crew, including a paramedic and four English-speaking naturalist guides. There are 4 interconnecting suites for families. Activities include night trips to see the Caimans and monkey & dolphin expeditions in the Pacaya Samiria Reserve, exploring & fishing in the Amazon, as well as city tours of Iquitos.

8. Hotel Monasterio

Originally built in 1592 on old Inca Foundations, the amazing Hotel Belmond Monasterio was only converted into a hotel in 1965 and has kept much of its original charm. Each room and suite is unique, with its own quirks and amazing brick work. Beautiful artwork adorns the walls and the furniture couldn’t be more in keeping with its surroundings. The hotel is centred around a wonderful courtyard, of which many rooms have views of. The hotel is about 3,000 metres above sea level - high in the Andes, so some rooms (about 65) have the ability to be enriched with more oxygen to combat altitude sickness. Join a city tour, go horse riding or mountain biking, explore Machu Picchu or even start your 4 – 6 day hiking and camping experience on the Inca Trail!

9. Circqa

Located in the historic centre of Arequipa, in a UNESCO protected site, this former monastery dates back to the year 1540 when the city was founded. Reviving the soul of a forgone Parador & inspired by the dedicated way monks would receive travellers, CIRQA pays homage to its heritage by carrying on warm Arequipenean traditions. In appreciation for its history, today the Parador combines its original sillar stone architecture with contemporary nuances to welcome guests.

10. Titlaka

Titilaka is a getaway lodge, overlooking ethereal landscapes with surreal views in every direction. With a sustainable approach to experiential travel that supports local artisans and a world-class team, Titilaka exceeds expectations at every turn.
